Los seres conocidos como Horrores y Pesadillas asolaron Thera durante el último siglo antes del Gran Cataclismo. Estas criaturas simbiontes con consciencia propia procedían del sector de la galaxia controlado por unas entidades alienígenas oscuras y amorfas llamadas, Reinas Behemoth, las cuales consiguieron hace 1200 años abrir portales de transporte entre la superficie de Thera y los planetas sin vida bajo su control.
Los Horrores y Pesadillas accedían a través de estos portales como masas densas y pegajosas con un fuerte olor a putrefacción, los cuales más adelante serían conocidos como Portales Melkyoranos por los theranos en la creencia religiosa de que estos conectaban con los planos celestiales del reino estelar de Melkyor, la deidad oscura del caos y la destrucción. Una vez en Thera, estos seres se dedicaban a la consumición de toda forma viva mientras habitaban en profundos nidos cavernosos. Aparentemente allí crecían, se evolucionaban a formas superiores de horror y se reproducían como si de una colonia de insectos se tratase.
Los expertos en la xenobiología de estas criaturas son pocos, ya que solo unos pocos desafortunados que no enloquecieron ante la realidad vieron durante la exploración de los nidos de estas criaturas vivieron para contarlo. Según los supervivientes, los especímenes de una colonia funcionan como una sola mente controlada por la reina que los mantenía con la energía que emanaba de su gigantesco y amorfo cuerpo.
Estas criaturas en su forma original se arrastraban al principio lentamente sobre la superficie, devorando cualquier entidad orgánica a su paso, incluyendo la vegetación y utilizando parte de las mismas para ir modificando su forma física y transformarse en monstruosidades con formas más definidas.
Algunas de ellas simplemente poseían los cuerpos de personas mutándolas de manera horrible y utilizándolas para combatir y acabar con la vida de sus enemigos, pero otros se transformaban en criaturas más grandes. Estas monstruosidades serían conocidas como Pesadillas, y la gran mayoría de ellas formarían la base trabajadora y militar de esta especie invasiva con el fin de cavar los túneles y los hogares bajo tierra donde habitarían o de combatir contra los ejércitos theranos que se les opondrían.
Otras, se transformarían en titánicos seres con grandes armaduras de quitina conocidos como Horrores, algunos de los cuales, serían incluso capaces de volar.
Afortunadamente para los infelices theranos, todos los Horrores y Pesadillas fueron destruidos al final del cataclismo, ya fuera a través de la propia guerra o de la destrucción del portal Melkyorano de Kânn.
Lo único de esta especie que sobrevivió a este apocalíptico evento, fueron los Horrores conocidos como “Restos Latentes”, los cuales se resguardaron en el interior de profundas e inaccesibles cavernas a la espera de un futuro resurgir.

The beings known as Horrors and Nightmares ravaged Thera during the last century before the Great Cataclysm. These symbiote creatures with their own consciousness came from the sector of the galaxy controlled by dark and amorphous alien entities called the Behemoth Queens, who managed to open transport portals between the surface of Thera and the lifeless planets under their control 1200 years ago.
Horrors and Nightmares entered through these portals as dense, sticky masses with a strong odor of putrefaction, which would later be known as Melkyoran Portals by the Therans in the religious belief that these connected with the celestial planes of the star realm of Melkyor, the dark deity of chaos and destruction. Once on Thera, these beings dedicated themselves to the consumption of all living forms while inhabiting deep cavernous nests. Apparently they grew there, evolved into higher forms of horror, and reproduced like a colony of insects.
Experts in the xenobiology of these creatures are few, since only a few unlucky ones who did not go mad before they saw the reality during the exploration of the nests of these creatures lived to tell about it. According to the survivors, the specimens of a colony function as a single mind controlled by the queen who sustains them with the energy that emanates from her gigantic and amorphous body.
These creatures in their original form crawled slowly on the surface at first, devouring any organic entity in their path, including vegetation and using part of it to modify their physical form and transform into monstrosities with more defined shapes.
Some of them simply possessed the bodies of people, horribly mutating them and using them to fight and kill their enemies, but others transformed into larger creatures. These monstrosities would be known as Nightmares, and the vast majority of them would form the working and military base of this invasive species in order to dig the tunnels and underground homes where they would inhabit or fight against the Theran armies that would oppose them.
Others would transform into titanic chitin-armored beings known as Horrors, some of which would even be capable of flight.
Fortunately for the unhappy Therans, all Horrors and Nightmares were destroyed at the end of the cataclysm, either through the war itself or the destruction of Kânn's Melkyoran portal.
The only thing of this species that survived this apocalyptic event were the Horrors known as "Latent Remains", which took refuge inside deep and inaccessible caverns awaiting a future revival.
